Relaxing day in Spencerport

The plan for the day was to stay in Spencerport as they were predicting rain in the morning and we wanted some time to relax and have time to take a walk around town.  So the morning started off with Millie and I taking our morning walk along the canal.  It was overcast and a bit cooler, but the rain was still holding off so we got out when we could.

We returned back to the boat and woke up Mike, 11 hours of sleep (off and on) was enough.  We enjoyed a nice breakfast and soon after the rains began.  I quickly went around and checked to make sure all the leaky areas were covered and then we were good to go for the time being.  

Millie is adjusting well to living aboard, she is not to happy when one of us leaves the boat.  She has found this spot to look out the window for us.

The rain lasted til just after lunch then the skies turned blue once again and it turned out the be a perfect afternoon.  By this time the two other boats that were docked at our bow and stern had moved on.  You see you are only allowed to dock here for 48 hours.  So for a while we had the docks to ourselves. 

Since the weather had cleared up we decided that now was a great time to go exploring the town.  We had a destination in mind, if we could only find it.  

Ah ha!  We found it.  

The local ice cream shop.  It had literally been well over a month since we have had ice cream and we figured it would be a wonderful treat.  It was a small little place owned by a very kind woman.  She was working by herself today after telling us that all the kids that were working for her had gone back to school.  The ice cream was superb.  We would definitely be back in the future.

We returned back to the docks.  While Mike was visiting the museum at the visitor center I took Miss Millie for yet another walk.  

I decided to head over to the other side of the canal to get a different perspective.  The town of Spencerport is so nice.  It's clean, friendly and extremely convenient to boaters.  Everything was in walking distance from the docks.

After our walk Millie was ready for another nap.  So Mike and I took our chairs outside and put them on the dock in the shade by our boat.  It was a great way to watch whatever boats were coming and going and simply to enjoy the fresh air.  

Millie LOVED IT.

We spent the rest of the afternoon, reading, visiting with folks walking by the docks and helping other boaters tie up as they arrived for their time in Spencerport.  It was a great way to relax and enjoy the afternoon.

We enjoyed a nice dinner aboard and then headed back out to the "back porch" to enjoy the evening.  And of course Millie got in another walk.

We also discovered that Miss Millie has now learned to make her way to the bow of the boat all on her own.  Mike found her trotting her little self right up there with no help from either of us.  I am glad to see she has acquired her "sea legs" but I must admit it does make me a bit nervous not knowing what we would do if she fell in.  Well dogs can swim right?

Since Millie decided she wanted to sit at the bow of the boat we decide to join her.  It was a perfect place to watch the evening sky and the sunset.  

It had been a relaxing day in Spencerport and Thursday we were off to Brockport and a visit with the Skoogs.  So it was time to retire for the evening.
