Rocking and Rolling in Bushnell Basin

Thursday morning in Spencerport began with some slightly overcast skies and temps in the low 60's.  Great cruising weather, specially since we would be heading east this morning. 

Mike headed up to the helm to wipe things down a bit as the dew had settled in pretty handily.  I took that opportunity to take Millie for one last walk before we took off for Bushnell Basin. It would be a little over 2 hour trip and we had 2 large locks to transit through today so she would be spending some time in her kennel up with us on the fly bridge.  (She is safest there during locking)

We were off before 9:00 a.m.  Sad to leave Spencerport as it is one of our favorite stops along the canal, but we were headed off to a destination we had not stayed at before.  

The morning clouds were a welcomed site. 

There's those crazy cormorants that don't seem to understand how to get over to the side of the canal.  No worries we didn't run them over.

Okay I had a bit of a fascination with this.   I can't remember the name of these things and well the Captain is still asleep as I write this, but I know they are used to dam off part of the canal.

Miss Millie spent a good part of the morning hanging out in my lap while we were cruising.  She has a much better view from up here.

By mid morning the skies were beginning to clear up and whew things started getting warm.

You can always tell when you start to cruise through Rochester.  Traffic and not on the canal.

Okay maybe a little traffic on the canal. 

By 11 we reach Bushnell Basin and low and behold literally right next to where we were docked is this yummy place.  Oh this could be good or bad depending.  We settled into the dock and had some lunch and we then headed out for a walk and yes we hit the custard store.  Yum!

and well established.

We watched the tour boat from Fairport come past.  Later we would come to find out the operator of this boat was not very courteous.  You see on the canal when passing other vessel that are tied up you slow down as to not cause a wake.  Well this person either didn't get that training or simply didn't care.  The wake from this large boat tossed our boat around like a toy.  When you are on the boat it can be a bit dangerous specially when you are making dinner.  We literally had to hold on for fear of falling over.  This boat passed us 8 times during the day.  Luckily by 8:30 p.m. they were done for the day.   

The dock was lovely but I must admit you do feel a bit on display as folks had come to the custard store to enjoy some goodies.  They were cleared out by 9:00 p.m. so it wasn't too bad.

After dinner and before turning in for the night we spent some time up on the fly bridge enjoying the evening.  

We were treated to a beautiful evening sky.  Friday we are headed back to our home marina and looking forward to spending some time with friends before we return home.
