Friday morning started out a bit drippy, but oh what a beautiful day it turned out to be. The day started like every day usually does. Me updating the blog (at 5:00 a.m.) along with enjoying my first cup of coffee, yes there may be a second one today. Mike catching up on sleep that he so desperately deserves. Although he was up by 7:00 a.m. It's hard for either of us to sleep when we know how much needs to be done. We keep a list of all the projects that need completed and their priority. It helps to keep things from spiraling out of control. This day we had plans to complete the install of the forepeak walls, paint, and stain what ever needed done in this area and install a new faucet in the galley sink. We also needed to make a trip to Lowes and Walmart for supplies. Well like with anything when dealing with an old boat things never go quite the way you plan them to.
Let's take a minute to enjoy a completed project. Picture above shows the new peg rack stained and installed in the head (bathroom). Now our towels aren't well laying all over because of lack of well hanging things.
My view while I was putting together breakfast. Our bedding neatly folded up and placed behind the settee table. Oh and painting supplies right on the table, that's normal right?
After breakfast we headed over to the workshop to complete cutting a few boards, and to clean up our area. (Always leave a place cleaner than how you found it.) So I hauled the extra boards we were taking home back to the car. First though everything had to be taken out of the car so things could be packed up properly so everything could fit. It's going to be another trip home where you can't see out the back window. Oh well that's what side mirrors and back up cameras are for right?Mike finished cutting boards and swept up the area. We then headed back to the boat for install.
How this man can contort himself to fit into these tight spaces is beyond me. My body just aches watching him. He did a fantastic job.
After Mike finished installing the walls I worked on staining the pieces that would complete the bottom of the bunks. I also had to clean up the area where the cabinet had been removed. We decided to simply sand this area down and stain it to match the others the best we could. Below is the before picture.
After a productive morning we had a quick lunch and headed out to pick up some supplies. Our main goal was to find a new faucet for the sink in the galley. We were successful in finding what we needed and headed back to the boat for install. Well Mike would do the installing I am standing by to turn the water off and on. You see on a boat the water is either off or on there are no shut off valves at the sink. Once again my hubby is contorting himself into the smallest of spaces.
Well you know those projects that are supposed to take 15 minutes and then all the sudden they don't . As Mike was working on installing the new faucet he came to find out the previous owners had done some subpar plumbing and the old fixtures were not fitting onto the new ones. So back to Lowes we went for some other parts. After 15 minutes in Lowes they were not able to help us but gave us a name of a plumbing supply place in Rochester. So off we were to Rochester.
On our way back from Rochester we found out we are going to have visitors on Sunday. Not telling who it is you will just have to stay tuned. We are looking forward to their visit.
Okay I am going to share with you the real truths of working on an old boat and living on it at the same time. No this is not a hoarder situation it is the simple fact that we are living were we are working and the space is compact.
The dinette table is not only a place for enjoying meals but also a work bench. The space to the left of the table underneath the bunk is where Mike keeps all his tools. Oh and lets not forget the bedding piled behind the table as we are currently sleeping in the salon (living space) while the forepeak (bedroom) is under construction. Crazy? yes. But this is our life and we love it! (most of the time)

This life is not for everyone. The joys though do outweigh the frustrations. The people you meet along your journey are incredible. Right now docked at the marina on one side of us is a woman that is a broadcaster for NPR and her husband. Then on the other side is a retired park ranger from the Grand Canyon and her husband. They are both friendly, delightful women. Their husband aren't bad either.
By 5:00 p.m. the faucet was installed, the forepeak was as far along as it could be, dinner was fixed, enjoyed and galley cleaned up and we were ready to put our feet up and relax. It was an absolutley GORGEOUS evening. We both put our feet up (literally) and read for a while. Yes me who literally can't sit still for a few minutes at a time sat and read for a while.
Might I add that the temperatures for the day never got above 70 degrees and the evening air was so chilly I actually had to get a blanket to cover up with. Hard to believe for the end of July. But we will take it! Sure beats 90 degrees and humidity.
