Well where do I begin? I guess with the demise of Sunset Lady. Back in early May, Mike and our friend Jeff began bringing (cruising) Sunset Lady (our 35 ft Cris Craft) over to Dunkirk, NY. The guys were able to get the Sunset Lady to Dunkirk from Lorian, Ohio over to Dunkirk in a matter of a couple of days. They ran into some nasty weather after they arrived at Dunkirk, but weathered through and were able to return home and the boat was snug in it's dock. (so we thought). You see the marina where they had left the boat was not in the best of shape, but the guys felt it was good enough until we (Mike and I) could return in a couple of weeks and get her over to the Erie Canal (our intended destination).
Our plan was to have my brother (Gary) drive us up to Dunkirk Memorial Day weekend and we would then begin to take Sunset Lady over to the beginning of the Erie Canal. Well literally 12 hours before we were supposed to leave we received a phone call from the marina in Dunkirk informing us that the Sunset Lady had sustained some damaged during a nasty storm that had rolled in the day before.
Ouch! Needless to say we were not going anywhere soon. We contacted the insurance company and to make a long story short they informed us that they were not going to fix the boat but total it. Ugh! Now what? This would be boat #2 that we have lost to nasty weather. Hurricane Florence took our Mainship back in 2018. Well at that point we had kind of come to the realization that nothing boat related was going to happen this year. Until...
After receiving this news while sitting in a Lowe's Hardware parking lot we came home. I proceeded to hop on line and look at available boats in our price range. Well this is where Kismet happens. I was able to locate a 33 ft 1978 Carver Mariner that was actually located at the marina we had planned to keep Sunset Lady at permanently. So I showed it to Mike and well again to make a long story short (Are any of my stories short?) two days later we were in Macedon, NY looking at this boat. We both fell in love with it. The boat was in good shape for the most part but needed some "love" which is something we excel at. We made an offer and it was accepted. So we are now back in NY for the next 10 days or so working on "Kismet" our newest edition to the family. And yes the whole process truly was kismet.
