After a good 7+ hour drive we arrived back up in Macedon on Wednesday the 7th. Much to our delight the weather here was much cooler, 68 degrees. If you remember last week it was in the 90's. So we quickly got to work. The one thing we absolutely had to accomplish before the day ended was to unload everything from the car (which once again was packed) and then take the old mattress and about 8 old and falling apart life jackets that were left from the previous owner to the dump.
We then moved everything inside the boat. Needless to say we had to find a home for all of this if we were going to sleep that night. Our plans were to sleep with our own mattresses on the floor of the salon as they would not currently fit in the forepeak. Part of Mike's plans for this trip were to tear apart the forepeak layout and make it to fit these two mattresses instead of that one old one.
While we were working on cleaning up for the night I noticed outside the door that one of the marina's hire boats was "hauling" in another boat. This other boat had some engine trouble and would be here for a while until the repairs were completed.
Woke up early Thursday morning, made a pot of coffee and headed back to my bunk to do some computer work. (White bucket is to catch the rain water until we figure out the window situation.) You see the forepeak where we would normally sleep is under construction and the mattresses that we have do not fit there. More on that at a later date. Until then each night we haul out the 2 twin mattresses and put one of the floor and the other in the dinette (once it is lowered). Mike is so kind as to sleep on the mattress on the floor as it's hard for me to get up from that level because of my arthritis. Once again he is a good man! So because I am an early (very early) riser I try not to bother him while he sleeps. Besides the fact not sure I could find him in this pile of blankets. Oh the life of rehabbing a boat.
It's not long though before Mike is up and working. Below he is working on insulating the hose from the air conditioner so that it is not radiating so much heat into the cabin. The knowledge this man has never ceases to amaze me.
Okay time for a cuteness alert. While we were working on everything and fighting drippy windows our Daughter, Amanda, sends me a photo of our youngest grandson with his new first haircut. She even did it herself. I can't get over how much older he looks with his hair cut. Okay enough of the cuteness although it is a welcome distraction from boat stuff.
While we are working the dinette table has a tendency to get piled up with supplies. It is the only flat workspace that we have. On this boat is a ladder that will take you up to the flybridge. It's difficult to climb and is really very useless since there is another one outside of the cabin that does the exact same thing. We didn't want to completely get rid of it so I came up with the idea to make it into a shelving unit. Storage of any kind is always welcome on a boat. So Mike made up some great boxes that fit exactly on the ladder steps. I painted them (of course), added some removable wall paper on the inside and ta da! A useful, colorful shelving unit.
Once again while we were working we happen to look out and saw this beautiful large boat come into the marina. Now the marina here is on the smaller side and a boat this large well just isn't going to fit. They soon realized this and backed the boat up went out into the canal and re-entered down at the transient docks. (overnighters) Since Thursdays there is a very small staff working we headed over to help them with their lines. Helped them get tied up, and get in contact with the maintenance folks, I guess something was wrong with their generator. Mike and I headed off to town but told them if they ended up having to stay they were welcome to use our car if they needed to get some supplies.
Speaking of large boats the one below was brought in Thursday morning too. The staff was helping the owners out by docking the boat for them. Whew 2 big boats in one day.
To get to the title of this entry the temperatures were much cooler in the 60's which is great when you are working on a boat. But with the cooler weather came the rain. It rained off and on all day. The good thing about the rain is that we were able to figure out where all the leaks are.
By early evening the rain had stopped. The clouds looked threatening, but nothing came of them.
Had to take a picture of this little (well big) one. I was on my way up the hill to the head and all of the sudden this little one was walking right next to me tails a wagging. It (not sure if it was a boy or girl) literally waited for me while I was inside and then walked me back to our boat. I have no idea who in the marina it belongs to but they are lucky to have such a sweet companion.
